    Why choose fiberglass over steel doors in Florida?

    In salt air, pool areas and chemical or washdown rooms, a standard steel door needs galvanized or stainless construction and ongoing maintenance to control corrosion. A fiberglass door avoids that maintenance cycle and is still available with fire ratings and windstorm resistant approvals.

    Can a fiberglass door be used on a fire-rated opening?

    Yes. Fire-rated FRP doors are built with a mineral core in 20-, 45-, 60- and 90-minute ratings (Special-Lite, in leaves up to 4 by 8 feet). For 3-hour openings, hollow metal is the usual choice. A rated fiberglass door still needs a labeled frame and hardware listed for fire doors.

    Are fiberglass doors available for Florida wind zones?

    Yes. Mills & Nebraska supplies fiberglass doors with Miami-Dade NOA approval where required for coastal and corrosive sites. As with any exterior door, the door, frame, anchors and hardware must match the approval and cover the project's design wind pressure.
