What is the difference between panic hardware and fire exit hardware?
Panic hardware unlatches a door when occupants push the bar and is tested to UL 305. Fire exit hardware is panic hardware that is also listed for use on fire-rated doors, and it cannot have mechanical dogging that holds the latch retracted.
What occupancy groups apply to arenas and stadiums?
Under the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023), indoor arenas with spectator seating are generally Group A-4, and outdoor stadiums and grandstands are generally Group A-5. The occupancy group and occupant load drive egress door width, swing direction and panic hardware requirements.
What is UL 10C positive pressure testing?
UL 10C is the positive pressure fire test for swinging door assemblies. The Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023) requires side-hinged and pivoted swinging fire doors to be tested under positive pressure, so the labeled door, frame and any required edge seals must be listed together.
