A wood door often has to do more than look right. Guest room and corridor doors may need a fire rating, and doors for recording studios, conference rooms, hotel rooms and offices may need an acoustic rating. Our team coordinates each wood door with its frame and hardware so the full opening works together.

Can wood doors handle Florida's humidity?

Yes, when they are specified correctly. Engineered cores and factory finishing on all faces and edges help commercial wood doors resist warping, and doors should be stored and installed in enclosed, conditioned spaces.

What is the difference between custom wood doors and prehung wood doors?

Custom wood doors are built to a project's specification for species, veneer, core, size, rating and finish. Prehung wood doors come already hung in a frame. Mills & Nebraska offers them as two separate offerings, so note which one your project needs when you request a quote.

Are fire-rated wood doors available?

Yes. Wood doors are available with fire ratings up to 90 minutes, tested to NFPA 252 or UL 10C positive pressure. A rated wood door must be installed with a matching labeled frame and hardware listed for fire doors, per NFPA 80, and stays a rated opening only while every part of the assembly matches the listing.

What does an STC rating mean for a wood door?

STC (Sound Transmission Class) is a single number for how much airborne sound an assembly blocks; the higher the number, the more sound it stops. Acoustical wood doors from manufacturers we provide range from STC 27 to STC 52 at VT Industries, and Overly sound control wood door systems are rated STC 41 to 50. The rating applies to the tested assembly, so the frame, seals and threshold must match what was tested to get that performance in the field.

Do you provide wood doors for historic renovations?

Yes. For historic and renovation work, our team helps select species, veneer and stain so new wood doors suit the existing interior while still meeting current fire and accessibility requirements, including custom profiles to match original millwork in historic buildings.
