Commercial door hinges carry the full weight of the door through every cycle, so hinge type, size and finish decide how long an opening lasts. Mills & Nebraska's hinge program covers ball bearing butt hinges, heavy-duty continuous hinges, spring hinges, swing clear hinges and electric power transfer hinges.
We provide hinges from McKinney and Hager. A 4-1/2 x 4-1/2 inch ball bearing butt hinge suits a standard office door, while a full-length continuous hinge is a better fit for a hospital's high-traffic corridor or a busy school door.
Every hinge is specified against the door's weight, frequency of use and fire rating.
How to choose
Use ball bearing hinges on commercial doors, continuous hinges on high-traffic or abuse-prone openings, and stainless steel hinges near the coast. On fire-rated doors, NFPA 80 requires steel ball bearing or bearing-type hinges.
