What fire rating do doors in warehouse fire walls and fire barriers need?
Under the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023), which is based on the International Building Code, openings in 2-hour fire barriers generally need 90-minute doors, and openings in 3-hour and 4-hour walls need 3-hour doors. The assembly must be labeled and installed per NFPA 80.
What gauge hollow metal door is best for a warehouse?
Warehouse personnel doors are commonly specified as ANSI/SDI A250.8 Level 3 (Extra Heavy Duty, minimum 16 gauge) or Level 4 (Maximum Duty, minimum 14 gauge) for dock and high-abuse openings, set in welded frames anchored to the wall construction.
Do exterior warehouse doors need product approval in Florida?
Yes. Exterior doors must resist the design wind pressures for the site under the Florida Building Code 8th Edition (2023) and carry Florida Product Approval or local approval. Projects in the High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward counties) need HVHZ-approved products, such as those with a Miami-Dade NOA.
