    What makes a door closer ADA compliant?

    Under the 2010 ADA Standards, interior hinged doors can require no more than 5 pounds of force to open, and a closer must take at least 5 seconds to move the door from 90 degrees open to 12 degrees from closed. Fire doors may use the minimum opening force allowed by the authority having jurisdiction.

    Are door closers required on fire-rated doors in Florida?

    Yes. NFPA 80, which Florida enforces through the Florida Fire Prevention Code, requires fire doors to be self-closing or automatic-closing and positively latching. A listed door closer is the standard way to meet that requirement.
