In many areas of the country you can find specialty purpose shelters and rooms designed to withstand the devastating effects of hurricanes, tornados, and other storms.

Community shelters, storm shelters, disaster shelters, and even residential safe rooms all rely on storm rated construction materials to preserve life during storms. Often the most vulnerable part of these types of shelters are their doors and windows.

Tornado winds, for instance, can reach up to 250 mph and flying debris can be dangerous and deadly with the ability to puncture windows and doors. Which is why, when selecting a door for a tornado shelter, it is important that not only the door meet international storm standards, but the frame and hardware as well. While some doors may seem heavy duty and strong enough, it is vital that doors designed specifically to be tornado resistant and are certified as such are used.
