Wrapping It Up - Putting a Pretty Bow on Lean

Over the last few videos you've seen what lean thinking looks like, how it works in practice, the benefit to workers, the company, and the customers. Hopefully your understanding and appreciation for lean implementation has grown. Today we are doing a final wrap up and introducing new lean processes - kanban, wip (work in process), and andon systems. These all aid workers to know what and when something needs to be done. Each of these serves as (self-directed) triggers.

Lean Leadership

What is Lean Leadership and how do employees take ownership of their work? It starts with the culture. Creating and fostering an environment of growth is key to opening the door to successful lean implementation. Lean leaders aren’t micromanagers, their role is more teacher and coach. They help employees see the significance of their role and how the employees' performance can help them or hinder them.

When Buildings Grow Legs And Walk

Ever need to check your eyes because you can't believe what you are seeing? Well, call it a miracle or call it amazing, recently in China a building walked more than 203 feet. It had some help thanks to some robotic legs. Technology in the construction industry is making amazing strides (pun intended) into how historic and older buildings are moved and relocated. Instead of using side rails or flatbeds about 200 hydraulic devices were used before the robotic legs could be put in place. Then the short walk took about 18 days. When you weigh 7 tons you should pace yourself. For more information and to see with your own eyes click this link - make sure to scroll down to see the time lapsed video: https://www.autoevolution.com/news/robotic-legs-help-7-ton-primary-school-walk-to-its-new-location-150922.html#agal_0

Good Advice Inside

Did you know that good advice works best when it's implemented? Our Owner, Bridget Pulsifer, was recently part of the conversation at the Women's Leadership Live 2020 Tour held in tandem with the release of the "Where Women Create WORK; Women Working For A Stronger America" special edition magazine. The purpose of the tour was to highlight women business owners and the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that gave women the right to vote. The event was recorded so we have a clip from that segment of some good advice.  Bridget talks about her pre-Mills career and some of the best advice she implemented to lead Mills into the best growth of its 87+year company history. Watch and learn - and remember implementation puts knobs on the doors so they open. You can watch it on any of our social media sites or here:

What Does Dedicated Look Like?

If longevity is a precursor to dedication, then Mills & Nebraska has been blessed with a very dedicated man. After 35 years of being the go-to guy for the upkeep of the property and all things mechanical, our George has officially retired.

Over the years he morphed with Mills, playing an important multi-faceted role where he touched many of the critical daily operations of the company and the equipment we use. He came to work, did his job well, and cared about the company. Not even surgeries or bumps, cuts, and bruises would stop him from being here. He had a job to do, a responsibility to keep, and people who were counting on him - his family and his Mills family.

For anyone who would listen, George was willing to tell them the proper way to load a truck, use a forklift, or any other job related task. His knowledge, work ethic, and drive to make and keep things right and running have always been admirable. Even though he's in his early 80's, he can hold his own and outwork most of the young guys around here - hands down.

Happy Independence Day USA!

On July 4, 1776 our Founding Fathers who were members of the Continental Congress agreed on the language in the Declaration of Independence declaring our nation's independence from England. The world has never been the same since that declaration  was made, signed, sealed, and delivered. So we celebrate! We celebrate our independence. We celebrate the brave men, women, and families who were the pioneers in steering this great nation in the right direction and on the right foot. We at Mills & Nebraska hope and pray you and yours celebrate all that this special national holiday means. Happy Independence Day! #4thofJuly #foundingfathers #declaration #celebrate #grateful #USA

Happy Birthday To Us!

On June 21, 2020 MIlls & Nebraska celebrated another milestone birthday. We turned 87 and we feel great! In 1933 five local businessmen had the crazy idea to start a company during the Great Depression. These men recognized that a total building supply company would be required to meet the needs of the community and would likewise stimulate the growth of their company. Since that time Mills & Nebraska has seen a lot and we have morphed our business accordingly to meet our commercial customers needs. Today we service commercial opening projects that are all over Florida, in multiple states, and even in other countries. We look forward to serving the commercial industry here and beyond for at least another 87 years! #happybirthdaytous  #millsnebraska #commercialdoors #eightyseven
