Commercial Doors for a Variety of Applications

Posted on Apr 21 2015

commercial-hospital-doorsFrom hospitals to government buildings, commercial doors of all shapes and sizes can be found in nearly every public or commercial setting. Unlike residential doors, commercial doors often have to multitask. Rather than simply serving as a barrier between one area and another, most commercial doors are required to fulfill multiple functions. Often they act as a line of security for the building, a barrier that contributes to safety in the event of a storm or attack, or serve as a special purpose entrance, like a fire door does.

Finding the right commercial door is often a matter of identifying the functions it needs to fulfill. Locking requirements and special functions are necessary pieces of information when selecting a commercial door.

Below you can find some of the most common interior and exterior commercial doors, and the special purposes they are most often used for.

  • Sound rated- Typically used in live performance venues and industrial applications, sound rated doors are used to control noise and sound. Because sound rated doors are used in such varied settings, they can be found in a wide range of styles.
  • Fire rated / Temperature rise- Used to control the spread of fire, providing protection, fire rated doors can be found in many applications. From residential buildings to industrial settings, fire rated doors are designed to close automatically with special fire-door hardware.
  • Bullet and blast resistant- Blast and bullet resistant doors are often found in government, embassy, military, or secured facility applications. Manufactured to meet stringent guidelines, these doors are built for durability.
  • Architectural Wood Flush and Stile and Rail- A common type of commercial door, architectural wood doors can be found in a variety of designs and veneers with the look of wood's natural beauty..
  • Embossed Hardboard- Typically used for interior doors, embossed hardboard doors are durable and economical.
  • Prefinished- Prefinishing a door is a good solution for interior doors without the hassle of finishing on site. Factory finished doors provide a type and quality difficult to achieve with field finished methods.
  • Paneled doors- Paneled doors are also common interior doors, although they can also be used for exterior doors.
  • Wind Storm / Hurricane rated- Found in areas prone to high winds, wind storm and hurricane doors are used to provide a layer of protection from inclement weather.
  • Storm PRO 361 FEMA doors for tornados- Much like hurricane rated doors, these doors are designed to withstand high winds. However, they are also manufactured to withstand debris from tornado-force winds.
  • Lead lined Doors- Most commonly used for radiation and x-ray shielding application, lead lined doors can be found in medical and industrial applications.
  • Fiberglass Commercial Doors- Fiberglass doors offer extreme durability because of the corrosion, chemical, and bacterial resistance of fiberglass. They are lightweight and can often be easily customized.
  • Traffic Doors- Used in high traffic areas, traffic doors are manufactured with longevity in mind. Most often traffic doors are designed to swing freely, allowing for optimum mobility.
  • Weatherized Thermal Break Frames- Designed to increase the energy efficiency of a building, these doors stop frost from forming on the inside of an opening.

We rely heavily on commercial doors, which is why they need to perform to specification and, more often than not, look good while doing it. Seamlessly blending durability and aesthetics  can be a tall order which is why we only work with manufacturers with an established reputation for excellence in design and function.

We distribute and customize fiberglass, hollow metal, wood, and even custom commercial doors from some of the biggest names in the commercial door industry.
