Specialty Commercial Doors

Posted on Jan 21 2016

Some of the most common commercial door types include:

  • Aluminum
  • Fiberglass - FRP
  • Hollow metal
  • Wood

Each of these basic door types offer advantages and best suit certain needs. Within commercial construction, however, there is often a need for more specialized door solutions.

Commercial doors are used in a vast array of industries, applications, and geographical areas. Because of the variety of commercial door applications there are a number of common specialty commercial doors.

Storm Doors

For instance, it is common for commercial applications in storm prone areas to call for specialty storm rated doors. Wind storm and hurricane rated doors are used in areas prone to high winds, wind storms, and hurricanes to provide a layer of protection from the inclement weather. Similarly, Storm Pro 361 FEMA doors are used in areas that are prone to tornadoes and can withstand not only wind but tornado- force wind flung debris.

Lead Lined and Bullet Resistant

In applications with frequent radiation or x-ray use, commercial door specifications will call for lead lined doors. Lead lined doors are common in medical and industrial applications. Government, embassy, military, and secured facility construction often calls for bullet and blast resistant doors. These doors are manufactured to meet stringent guidelines and are built for durability.

The Most Common Specialty Commercial Doors

By far, the most common specialty commercial doors are fire and temperature rated doors. Fire rated and temperature rise doors are used to control the spread of fire, providing protection, fire rated doors can be found in many applications. From residential buildings to industrial settings, fire rated doors are designed to close automatically with special fire-door hardware.
