Open, Closed, or Revolving?

Some doors are open. Some doors are closed. Some doors are revolving. In the door business, it is each of those and all at the same time. As an 89-year-old company, we find that happens with some of our team members. Over the span of their careers our doors have been open, closed, and revolving.

We have had several people who were initially employed here, left and worked elsewhere, then returned. We appreciate their dedication when they were first here, the experience they gained elsewhere, and the energized allegiance they now have to the company.

Jim is one of those employees. Jim's initial tenure with us was in the shipping department as warehouse supervisor almost 20 years ago. During that time, he learned about material preparation and proper packaging for LTL truck line deliveries both locally and out of State. Working directly with the Shops and the Project Executives honed his skills for his next internal move to Sales.

When Jim was part of the Inside Sales Team, he found a great mentor and teacher in Chuck Boehm. He also holds in high regard all the others he worked alongside. Jim says he, “was fortunate to work with some outstanding professionals in our field.” He adds, “[Mills] has a lot of good knowledgeable people.”

After leaving Mills to pursue other opportunities in the door and hardware business, Jim returned in 2019. His return was somewhat fortuitous. He was on a business call with one of our Project Executives who asked Jim if he would be interested in coming back to work at Mills. That question led to a welcome return from his former employer. Jim currently works as a Pre-Construction Specialist in our Contracts Department.

His second tenure here has seen a lot of changes and some familiar faces. When Jim first started we had several locations in Orlando that included a Truss Plant, Lumber Yard, and Door Department. Now, we are a refined business focusing on opening solutions for the commercial door industry. Some of the people that worked with Jim initially are still working here today. For Jim, he’s grateful to be back and glad the door was revolving.
